Outline:
Electronic music II
is a continuation of Electronic Music I MUS 120. In this class we will
explore the world of midi-based electronic music in a workshop format.
Students will continue with the last chapter of the text by Chadabe
from MUS 120 (Midi-Based Composition). Central to the course will be
hands on work at our Korg workstations in the music lab of Nestor
hall. Students will be given exercises and studies from a supplemental
workbook as yet to be determined. Students will also consult an online
web supplement being formulated for the course by Joe Marcum in the
communications department of Columbus State Community College. This
web will be accessed by the student for online listening assignments
to electronic works by Rocco Di Pietro and others to give the student
a direction for his or her assignments. Analysis of the works through
listening and written essays will be assigned. Additionally, we will
spend much of the semester formulating pieces the student will be
expected to present for a grade as well as performing in a
midi-ensemble group compositions and improvisations created in class
by the students. A future midi-synthesizer ensemble at Columbus State
is the hoped for goal.
