Documents in my foreign language course won't open in Blackboard!

Relates to: General Blackboard, Firefox, Internet Explorer

Users of Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) will need to make a change to the default International Settings in order to open documents in Blackboard whose file names contain foreign characters. This change does not affect the security settings in IE7 and should not affect normal web browsing. Users of Internet Explorer 6, Firefox and Netscape do not need to make any changes.

To change the International Settings in IE7:

  1. Hit Alt T
  2. Select Internet Options
    Screenshot of Tool menu
  3. Click on the Advanced tab
    Screenshot of Advanced tab
  4. Scroll down to International
  5. Uncheck Send UTF-8 URLs
    Screenshot of International Settings
  6. Click Apply
  7. Click OK
  8. Re-start IE7

All documents in Blackboard containing foreign characters should now open.
