An Attempt in Progress icon in a grade book means that you are still working on an assignment or an exam.

An Attempt in Progress icon on an Exam

In most exams, An Attempt in Progress icon means you have been locked out. In some instances, the instructor allows you to save the exam and return to it later. To determine which is the case for your situation, click on the icon. If you are allowed back in the exam, you may continue to work on it. If Blackboard displays the message "Test has not been completed, so it cannot be reviewed.", then you have been locked out and need to contact your instructor in order to re-take the exam.

An Attempt in Progress icon on an Assignment

An Attempt in Progress icon on an assignment simply means that you clicked Save as Draft instead of Submit. In order for your instructor to be able to access (and grade) your assignment, you need to do the following:

  1. Go back to your Assignment
  2. Make sure you have the correct file uploaded and/or have written the correct comments
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of the screen
  4. Click Submit

The Attempt in Progress icon will change to an exclamation point, indicating that the instructor is now able to manually grade your assignment.
